On March 15th I was invited to attend a Hallmark-sponsored blogger event in Seattle. It was the first sponsored event to which I was invited. Will got to spend the morning with Jim at his office just down the street, since my babysitters fell through.
The event kicked off with a video created from material we were asked to submit. I gave them a post that I had written about Jack’s little notes. When my name came up of the screen I actually got teary.
The Hallmark speakers were two writers, Keion and Molly and an editor, Derek. They shared their writing process and gave us an understanding of how cards are created. Later we even had a chance to create a card from some photos that the speakers brought.
My highlight of the morning came at the Q and A session at the end. The speakers were asking us about our process and how we feel about sharing so much of ourselves online. Blog writing is much more personal then creating greeting cards. Derek asked who had written “Splat Goes the Lasgana,” my post from earlier in the week. I immediately raised my hand. He gave me several compliments, which made my day. Since I am not a trained writer and am still refining my style and voice, it was so validating to have a true writer compliment my work.
Each of us were given wonderful swag bag, including their new Story Buddy with a story book written by Molly and two recordable storybooks. They also provided a lot of greeting cards on the tables.
I got to reconnect with a couple of Seattle area bloggers I had met at last year’s Bloggy Boot Camp and also met a few new ones, including Liz Hawks who was working the event for Hallmark and has a son with Ocular Albinism like our son, Will. It was fun to meet Liz in person, since it is so rare to find someone who understands Ocular Albinism and nystagmus. Such a fun morning; thanks Hallmark!
I also covered this event on ShePosts, be sure to check it out.
Now for the giveaway…
