I Pledge to Do My Best…

cub scout JackJack is a Cub Scout and very excited. In June new neighbors down the street helped start a new Cub Scout pack for our school. Jack decided to join after going to an orientation meeting (without the comfort of many friends) and decided he was interested. He gets a special founders patch for his uniform as he is helping to build a newly-formed pack.

I was looking for a non-sports extracurricular activity for Jack and liked what the Scouts had to offer. I wasn’t a girl scout, but I was in 4-H and really enjoyed that experience. Jim and I like the values, morals and activities that Scouting provides for Jack and we think he will really enjoy it. He is very excited about the activities, like summer day camp, winter camp and the pinewood derby.

Starting a new pack is an interesting experience for us as well – I volunteered to be the Treasurer (I know, like I needed to do another thing). The pack is small and manageable, but there are lots of things to do, including the big popcorn fundraiser. Since our pack is brand new we have no money to help fund the boys activities, patches for achievements or basic needs for a pack. Popcorn sales to the rescue. As part of the fundraiser Jack was able to set up an online popcorn sales website to support his sales efforts. This is not your father’s Cub Scouts. If you are interested in helping out by buying popcorn or donating money please click the link below. Floss not included.

Love this blog post! Jack looks so handsome in his uniform! And thank you for stepping up to be Treasurer. I look forward to an awesome first year!

  2. I was a Girl Scout for 15 years (even have a pin!) and loved it. Many of the skills I use today I learned being a Girl Scout. My second year of college I was a leader for a local troop! Good luck to Jack!
