A Mompreneur’s Chronicle Of Life With Her Boys

April – Memories Captured

Last week was Jack’s spring break so we decided a trip to the beach was in order; it was spring break after all. Since our new trailer wasn’t equipped with a rudder and sails we went to the Washington and Oregon coast. The weather was beautiful for April in the Northwest, but it wasn’t exactly warm. Jack decided that he needed to help Mulligan play fetch in the waves. Even after Mulligan got tired Jack jumped through the chilly water.

I put this together for the March Memories Captured hosted by Mama Wants This and These Little Waves.

Photo Friday – Happy Birthday Girlie!

Today is Mulligan’s 11th birthday. Doesn’t she look great! We love our goofy girl, who loves to lay on her back and smile while you scratch her tummy. She will turn herself inside out every time she sees you, even if you have only been gone for 20 minutes. Recently she loves to lay under my desk in the office when I am working; it is nice to have a companion.

Photo Friday – Walking to the bus stop

Today we walked to the bus stop and Will didn’t want to take his stroller. This is the first time in two years of walking to the bus stop with him that I haven’t pushed a stroller. I asked him if he wanted to hold Mulligan’s leash. It was such a cute scene, a boy and his dog. Every time she would stop to sniff something he would say, “No Mulligan, keep walking.”

Photo Friday – Good Girlie Dog

mulligan Mulligan is undergoing ACL surgery today, so I wanted to send her good karma and share one of our favorite photos of her. This was taken by Unkie Paul on a beach near Bodega Bay in North California during the summer of 2008. She is a good girl and our first baby.

Yum, yum birthday cake!

IMG_0795 William turned one last week and over the weekend we had his birthday party. I know it is a much bigger deal for the parents than the kids, but oh well. We didn’t go completely over the top with pony rides or clowns, but we did decorate the house and I made him his own small version of the cake. Well I did the cake so we did have to eat the frosting made with dairy free butter and IMG_0783soy milk. (It tasted OK, but not as good as the real buttercream.)

His actual birthday was uneventful accept for the phone calls from aunts, uncles and grandparents who all sang for him. He loved all of it.willbday

Saturday I spent 3 hours frosting cakes, but I didn’t get to do that for Jack so it was worth getting the claw from it. I have to admit, I didn’t come up with the cake design. Jack had a sad little applesauce muffin for his 1st birthday cake, since he was still no dairy or soy at that time.

Once people arrived Will was in pretty good spirits. You never know how they are going to react to having a house full of fun, but noisy people. At one point he was IMG_0844sitting in the middle of the kitchen eating a cracker looking around at everyone like “what the hell are all you people doing in my house.”

After dinner came time for the cake (the part I was most looking forward to). We lit his candle (which fell over while I was holding the cake in front of him) and sang. Then I set the cake down IMG_0853for him to try. He wasn’t sure he should touch it until I pushed one of his fingers into the cake. Then he dove in, except he didn’t want to taste it. I tried giving him bites off my finger, but no. Then I got one of his plastic forks and he thought that was OK. He ate is first sweets, about 3-4 spoons of frosting.

We got lots of great photos of his hands and cheeks with frosting. Then on to his haul of gifts. He got lots of great stuff. Thanks everyone!

IMG_0866Overall it was a very fun day! We wish that all the aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents could have been here too.

Happy 1st birthday William! Mommy, Daddy, Jack and Mulligan love you very much.
